Square Saturday
Clyde Walk
Welcome to my first Square Saturday post here on my blog, where I share a selection of my latest square format photographs. This week, the lens turned to the familiar yet ever-changing landscape along the River Clyde in my hometown of Greenock.
A cold morning walk provided the perfect conditions to explore the contrast and geometry of the riverside. Stripped of colour, the world reveals itself in rich textures and stark lines. My focus was drawn to the subtle narratives in the overlooked details: the gritty, uneven pattern of cobblestones and wet paving slabs reflecting the sky; the complex, woven structure of a mariner's knot; and the imposing silhouettes of industrial and nautical architecture.
These images are an exploration of light and shadow—the bold, graphic shapes cast by a fence or bridge structure, the deep black of the river surface reflecting only a glimmer of the sky, and the sharp relief on metal and rope. They capture a quiet moment of graphic beauty in the everyday infrastructure of the dockside.
